A Smarter Road At Stack Veterinary Hospital in Syracuse, we're fully invested in your pet’s health and offer pet wellness care plans tailored to their specific lifestyle. Every plan includes preventative medicine such as vaccinations, diagnostic testing, and parasite prevention. Our goal is to prevent health problems whenever possible or catch and treat them before they become more serious.

What to Expect Think of your pet’s wellness exam as a yearly or twice-yearly checkpoint in their journey through life. It’s important that we set a baseline at their first checkup so we can spot any changes that may occur later.

  • We start by charting your pet’s current medical history and asking questions about their nutrition, behavior, lifestyle, and any medical concerns you have.
  • Your veterinarian performs a nose-to-tail exam to make sure your pet has no physical problems. They may also recommend blood and/or fecal testing to check for parasites and other underlying concerns.
  • If your pet needs to be vaccinated, we offer core and risk-based vaccines to ensure that they get only the vaccinations they need.
  • Does your pet need parasite preventives? We can prescribe them based on your pet’s weight, species, and exposure risks. Parasite prevention is essential for preventing heartworm disease, Lyme disease, and more.

Focused Care for Senior Pets Medium and large dogs over 7 years old and small dogs and cats over 9 years old are considered seniors. We recommend that senior pets receive checkups every 6 months to monitor their health. Despite their need for additional medical care, senior pets can live full, happy lives. Our team can provide various services to manage or treat disease and increase their quality of life, including:

  • Laser therapy
  • Pain management
  • Comprehensive diagnostics (blood work, X-rays, EKG, and thyroid screening)
Before bringing in your senior pet for an appointment, we suggest completing our Geriatric Screening Questionnaire and Senior Pet Health Profile. This will help our team understand your pet's condition and circumstances better.
